How to Get Started
Contact T&G and set up your first lesson. The sooner you take your first
lesson, the sooner you will be a certified pilot. A T&G introductory flight
lesson,
for as little as $65, is a great way to start. A T&G instructor will
discuss the proper steps to becoming certified, introduce you to our training
program, introduce you to the airplane, and take you on your first lesson where
you will 'take the controls' for part of the flight.

Education and Licensing Information
T&G can provide you with all levels of flight training. A typical progression of licenses and ratings is as follows...
- Private Pilot's license - allows you to fly an aircraft with passengers
- Instrument rating - allows you to fly in Instrument conditions (clouds and fog)
- Commercial license - allows you to fly for compensation or hire
- Certified Flight Instructor rating - allows you to teach students in pursuit of a Private Pilot's license
- Certified Flight Instrument Instructor rating - allows you to teach students in pursuit of an Instrument rating
- Multi-Engine rating - allows you to fly multi-engine aircraft
- Multi-Engine Instructor rating - allows you to instruct in multi-engine aircraft
- ATP license - required for airline job
You will train primarily with one instructor. With our comprehensive training
program, you'll have the opportunity to fly with various instructors while
maintaining training continuity. T&G's flight instructors are some of the
most professional and highly experienced in the Cleveland area. All of our
courses use the guidance of a training syllabus. Unlike using a commercialized
syllabus, T&G's were uniquely devised by our experienced staff.
We want all of our customers to become confident, knowledgeable and truly
qualified pilots. All of our instructors are committed to this goal.
Getting Started:
You must pass 3 tests to get your Private Pilot's license. The first test you
must take is the private pilot written test. A 70% score or better is passing.
This test is offered at our CGF location and can be scheduled by calling
1-800-FLY-FAST and requesting site OHB. Within 2 years of passing the written
test you should be prepared to take your checkride. This is composed of an oral
test and a flight maneuvers test.
To prepare for the private pilot written test, you can either take T&G's 40-hour Ground School, or you can study the
material on your own, meeting with an instructor to supervise your study
program. Either way, you'll be prepared for the FAA written exam. You must pass
this exam before you apply for your pilot's license. Both approaches are
equally valid, but there are advantages to the ground school class. The
interaction between students helps animate and add to the information
presented. In addition, the class tours the Cleveland Hopkins Control Tower,
Radar Room and Flight Service Station. Then, for your convenience, T&G
offers the written test. With instant results at our Cuyahoga County location,
with a 5% discount to our members.
Before your first solo flight, you'll need an FAA Third Class Medical
Certificate. This is nothing more than a general physical examination. The exam
will be performed by one of many FAA-certified physicians in the greater
Cleveland area. You do not have to have 20/20 vision to become a certified
pilot. We encourage you to take this exam early. Here are some Medical & Pilot Examiners.
The FAA states that you need to have a minimum of 40 hours flight time to get
your license; at least 20 hours with an instructor and 20 hours solo. However,
very few people get their licenses with just the minimum of training. The
nationwide average to obtain a pilot's license is about 70 hours. With our
progressive training program, an average student at T&G should take 50-60
hours. Our goal is to give you all of the experience necessary to become a
safe, competent, knowledgeable pilot.

Private Pilot Certification
Since all individuals are different and we do not train people to a minimum, it
is unrealistic and unfair to give a fixed number of hours to the amount of
training you'll need. Therefore, we have supplied the following figures based
upon different amount of total hours.
| 40 Hours (Minimum Requirements) |
| 40 Hours of Aircraft Time |
$2,360.00 |
| 20 Hours of Instruction |

Although our Private Pilot Certification Course is based on 60 hours (the
nationwide average is approximately 70 hours), there is
no reason you can't finish prior to 60 hours. The fact is, no matter how many
hours are needed to be certified, there is no doubt you will agree that you
truly qualify as a pilot and are not simply legally certified.
